The Pathology service serves six hospitals across five NHS Trusts.  The current workload is around 50 million tests per annum and has a turnover of approximately £120m. They serve a population of approximately 3.9 million across six pathology laboratories, employing over 1000 whole-time equivalents of staff with over 100 consultants. Current annual activity for the Virology Laboratory is more than 700,000 samples.

- FRCPath 1 & 2 is essential.

- Experience in Infection Control and management of outbreaks.
- Experience of clinical and laboratory virology
- Thorough understanding of the principles of and experience in clinical audit

**About the Role:**

- To work productively and effectively as a team member with the Associate Specialist in Virology and the virology laboratory BMA, MLA and administrative staff to ensure the delivery of a high-quality, safe, comprehensive virology service.
- To validate, verify, authorise, and interpret virology and related laboratory results.
- To communicate critical/urgent results to clinical users and microbiologist colleagues.
- To provide clinical advice on the management of patients with viral infectious diseases.
- To engage with infection control and public health colleagues in the management of incidents and outbreaks.
- To work according to the agreed job plan.
- To uphold the principles of patient safety and confidentiality in line with regulations (e.g. GDPR) and published guidance (e.g. NICE, GMC Good Medical Practice).
- To carry out clinical duties to the level of their clinical competence and in line with departmental SOPs and guidelines.
- To conduct themselves according to the principles and precepts laid out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice standards.

About You:

The Trust is looking for candidates with their primary registration in Dental, however we need candidates with dual registration, or candidates with GDC and who are working towards GMC.
You will also need to have 4 years post graduate training with 2 years in the specialty.

About the Role:

You will be responsible for the continued care of patients, performing regular ward rounds, and participate in minor oral surgery and fast track clinics in the departments are required.
The successful candidate will also be expected to train junior doctors and support audit procedures.
You’ll also begive the opportunity to develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
You will be working within a busy unit, dealing with approximately 100 new cases of cancer per year within with fully integrated multi-disciplinary team with Macmillan CNS and speech and language therapy unit.
On Site: Intensive Care, Radiotherapy, Pathology Services, CT & MRI, Chemotherapy Day Unit services.

About the Unit:

The Acute Medicine Unit or AMU is designed to provide rapid and efficient carefor patients who present with acute medical problems. These may includeconditions such as respiratory infections, exacerbations of chronic diseases(like asthma or COPD), acute cardiac issues, gastrointestinal problems, andvarious other acute medical conditions.
Upon arrival at the AMU, patients undergo thorough assessment, includingmedical history, physical examination, diagnostic tests (such as blood tests,imaging studies, and electrocardiograms), and treatment initiation. The goal isto promptly diagnose the underlying condition and initiate appropriatetreatment to stabilize the patient's health.
Depending on the severity of their condition, patients may be admitted to thehospital for further management, transferred to a specialty ward for ongoingcare, or discharged home with appropriate follow-up arrangements. The AMU teamcoordinates with other departments and services to ensure continuity of carefor patients.

  • GMC Registration.
  • Possession of both a Medical Degree and Dental Degree from UK recognised institutions.
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry within 6 months of CCT.
  • Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an SAC approved 5 year minimum training programme in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, or within 6 months of completion
  • Demonstrate appropriate training in Deformity Surgery
  • 5 years of evidence of training within the NHS required for the specialty with validated surgical logbooks.
